Buried Treasures – Discover New Music – 8/17/10

Mudvayne “Nothing to Gein” live at Ozzfest 2001.
Awesome song about the serial killer Ed Gein. Absolutely brutal live. This is without a doubt, the very best performance of this song I have been able to find online. This was when Mudvayne was beginning to break and little did we know back then, but they’d be one of just a handful of metal bands that persevered through the decade and remain relevant today. What kills me about this clip is seeing the docile crowd reaction. It’s a wonder how Chad Grey still has a voice after this performance.
The Black Crowes “Oh Sweet Nuthin’”
I love The Black Crowes. They’re just a great American rock n’ roll band and one of the finest live acts you will ever see. This Velvet Undergound cover will give you chills. Beautiful song.
The Highwaymen “Highway Man”
The greatest country song of all time. Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson together as The Highwaymen. These guys were the real motherf*ckin deal.
Lost Boyz “Renee”
I can’t even listen to rap music anymore and it’s been that way for nearly 10 years. It’s just not the same. These guys never really got big outside of New York which is a shame because they have a number of great songs. This is my favorite. The video was filmed around my old stomping grounds of Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
Phish “Carini” live at Madison Square Garden (12/30/97)
I’m not a hippie but will gladly admit that I have enormous respect for Phish. Their success is remarkable. I’ve never seen them live but would go if given the chance. They do have some choice songs that I like and this is one of them.

I was always a Lifestyles of the Rich and Shameless guy from the Lost Boyz, son!

Was there ever an end to Excitebike? I loved building my own course.
Phish sucks!

Mudvayne live records are horrible.
Willie Nelson is a fave man. The guy is still on the road.
Really starting to like these columns.

I’m going to remain positive and not comment on the Phish selection or the Lost Boyz. To each their own.
But, I implore all of you to check out that that Highwaymen album. Great stuff on there. Waylon, Willie, Johnny, and Kris – outlaw country. The way country should be.
