Train Save Me San Francisco Album Review
By: Andrew Bilach
Train released their fifth album, Save Me San Francisco, on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 (10/27) through Columbia Records.
I am a huge fan of Pat Monahan’s voice, but for some reason, it’s surpressed, yet again, on Save Me San Francisco. Train was swinging for the fences with this release, and only time will tell if they knocked yet another one out of the park. There are several upbeat, hooky, adult alternative anthems on Save Me San Francisco, which will definitely please current Train fans. This is the definitive Train album, and the first album by the band where each song was meant to stand on its own merit, as opposed to those of program directors. I can’t help but think how well Monahan’s voice would work if laid over more gritty material. On a side note, scour the net for video of Train covering Aerosmith’s “Dream On” because Monahan gives Steven Tyler a run for his money. There’s one YouTube video of a live cover where Monahan’s pants are so tight I don’t know how his legs didn’t lose circulation. There is something about men in super tight pants that’s so wrong.

Pat Monohan does have a great voice. I think I saw the video you’re talking about. It was on some vh1 or mtv thing. He sounded great and I thought to myself Is This The Guy From Train? Wow.

Devildriver and Train have entered a contest to see who could develop the most ridiculous bird-themed album cover in 2009.

They didn’t even write Drops Of Jupiter. I saw some special on VH1 years ago. They were hosting a count down show or some thing and the drummer made a comment about how rich he was and it made me sick.

I wrote here already but want to come back and say Andrew’s reviews are short but they are usually right. The Fu Manchu is head on and this makes a point. I thought about what his voice would sound like in a more classic rock-fueled, vocal driven enviroment – he has the chops.
